Over the ten-month growing season, students participate in the FIELDS OF OPPORTUNITY℠: Apprentice Program, combining a growing-season apprenticeship with professional development and individualized coaching. Each student is matched with a Napa Valley wine industry employer and works alongside experienced vineyard professionals throughout the season, gaining hands-on experience and building an understanding of how vineyard work changes from winter pruning through spring growth, canopy management, fruit development, and harvest.

Alongside their on-the-job experience, apprentices participate in workshops and industry sessions focused on practical skills such as interview preparation, communication, conflict management, leadership, and career development. Each student also receives eight individual coaching sessions focused on goal-setting, confidence, emotional intelligence, and leadership development, along with opportunities to connect with industry leaders and learn about different career paths within the wine industry.

Together, the apprenticeship and professional development components give students a fuller understanding of vineyard operations while helping them build the technical knowledge, workplace skills, relationships, and confidence needed to take the next step in their careers.
