Summary
The Why Behind Pruning
This class will explore the various pruning styles used in Napa Valley—from cane pruning to spur pruning —and explain how each affects vine growth, yield, and long-term vineyard success. Participants will learn the principles behind each method and how climate, vineyard history, and varietal characteristics guide these decisions. In response to increasing interest, the workshop will also include a short introduction to grafting.
As growers adapt to changing climate conditions and shifting varietal needs, understanding the purpose, timing, and basic techniques of grafting has become more important than ever.
Limited to two employees per company.
The Why Behind Programming Connects Practice to Purpose
The Why Behind is a signature education series that connects everyday vineyard practices, innovation, and industry trends to the bigger picture. By understanding not only how work is done, but also why it matters, participants gain practical knowledge that supports informed decision-making, elevates quality and sustainability, and strengthens their ability to contribute meaningfully to annual vineyard management decisions.
This series creates space to step back, ask questions, and see how daily actions in the vineyard directly influence long-term vineyard health, grape quality, and Napa Valley’s continued excellence.
Please note that all programs are in Spanish unless otherwise specified.
Complimentary for Napa County farmworkers. This private event is for registered farmworkers only.
